Street Theater Festival Mercantia Certaldo

Street Theater Festival Mercantia Certaldo

Over 400 artists and 100 theater performances of all kinds each day make Mercantia Certaldo one of the most remarkable International Street Theater Festivals of Europe.

Street Theater Festival Mercantia Certaldo
When: July 13 – July 17
Where: Certaldo (Florence)

For the 29th edition of the festival the medieval town of Certaldo, located between Florence and Siena, will be transformed into a magical world filled with colorful characters. The streets, squares, parks, courtyards, and towers of the town make the stage for one of the largest summer street festivals that will take place from Wednesday, July 13th til Sunday, July 17th.

What makes Mercantia so unique is the variety of shows combining traditional street theater (jugglers, storytellers, mimes, fire-eaters, etc.), acrobats, puppeteers, clowns, magicians, prose, cabaret, comedians, dance, street musicians and contemporary art installations.

During the festival, it is possible to visit the Palazzo Pretorio, the twelfth-century building that preserves frescoes and works by Benozzo Gozzoli. Also, the museum The House of Boccaccio is open to the public, where the poet Boccaccio lived and died in 1375.
